Monday Match #5 MD Notes

Greetings, Dear Friends, it's time once again for another fun rendition of the Montezuma Marksmen Monday Match.  We hope you take the time to read everything here because you will need to know much (if not all) of the information presented below.

First, let's summarize the key points: 1) We are changing our shooting location; 2) We will be assigning parking spots to everyone, no exceptions; 3) We will need help carrying Stage Materials from and to the Stage Trailer; 4) the round count is 54 but you should bring at least 70 rounds; 5) We will be accommodating both of new IDPA CCP Division as well as the revised BUG Division.
Due to possible unforeseen delays in moving Stage props from the trailer to the shooting site, the Match may start later than the normal 10 am start time.

Many Thanks to Aubrey C. and Larry M. for their help in three out of the four stages for this Monday Match.  Also, please welcome new shooters Donna B., Bill R. and Chris M.  We will have 16 participants in two Squads of 8.

Here are the Squads for the Match.

Squad #1

John C./Bill R.-CSOs
Tony G.
Tom B.
David W.
Brad W.
Michael B.

Squad #2

John P./Larry M.-CSOs
Deanna M.
Becky C.
Aubrey C.
Donna B.
Pat D.

OK, let's discuss the new shooting area.  Montezuma Marksmen Old Timers will remember our new shooting area as our old shooting area that we used for two years before being politely kicked off the area due to new non-motorized restrictions.  Yes, it is the location on The Montezuma Well Road by the cattle Guard.  For those new to that spot, the two graphics below will help.
From Exit #293 (McGuireville) follow the signs to Montezuma Well National Monument.
Proceed past the Monument entrance onto an unpaved road and travel roughly 2.5 miles.
From Exit #298 (The Second Exit) proceed south on Forest Road #618.  Cross new bridge.
Proceed to four-way stop sign.  Turn right toward Montezuma Well National Monument.
Proceed approx 1.5 miles to the cattle guard.
Above is the shooting site marked by the red "X." The "Y" represents a ranch water source.
We checked with the Forest Service Range Tech and there will be no cattle of ranch activity.
Yes, we really will be assigning parking spots for each and every vehicle.
You will each receive an individual email with your specific parking instructions.
Parking will be very tight at this location so please plan ahead.
Here is the new fence panel we built for the "Don't Fence Me In" Stage.
Pat D. and Tom B. saved the day for the new shooting location.  Pat loaned this spiffy wagon.
Tom is loaning a deer carrier.  We also have a wheel barrow and an appliance moving device.
This is the now-closed road that leads into our shooting site.  I field-tested gear carry here and it takes less than five minutes to wheel materials from this spot to the shooting site.  The Stage Trailer will be backed into this area, completely blocking the closed access road so that we will not be encroached on my any motorized users who might be tempted to enter the non-motorized area.
The gear truck will be situated where the white truck is in this photo.  We will open the drift gate and back the gear trailer through that opening onto the apron of the no-closed access road.
There will be at least four and possibly 5 parking spots assigned in the area you see here.  All parking here will be "head in" to the right edge of this picture.  The area is dry and mud is not an issue.
This is the bar ditch and it is very wide with a sandy bottom.  There will be three parking spots in this bar ditch.  All three of the vehicles assigned here will need to use their 4WD to exit the bar ditch.

The four MM#5 Stage Designs are shown below.  To see the full size JPGs, please go here:

This is our famous Powerball Stage.  It changes slightly each time we put it together.  The common theme, however, is that you MUST save your ticket.  We play with a LIVE Powerball ticket and "could" be a winner in the next drawing.  Don't mess up that ticket!  This time around, we incorporated the equally famous "Crackhead" stage into the Powerball Stage.  You must shoot far to near as the Bad Guy is running toward you and your shots are not bringing him down.  The final shot must be a head shot.

Thanks to Aubrey C. for her creativity in coming up with this Time Travel Stage for our President's Day MM#5.  We expanded the number of targets, made it a Vickers Stage and added a running man.

Here is one of Larry M.'s fave stages.  It was set up at the Prescott Action Shooters January match.
We changed the fence design and shuffled the targets to make the stage considerably more difficult.

And, yes, here's another of Larry M.'s fave stages.  It was originally called "The Mind Bender" but Larry gave us permission to use his name on the Stage.  Thanks, Larry!  We made it two strings so the reloads will not be a factor between the different Divisions (except for BUG, of course).  Beware that each target will be covered by a t-shirt!
